This past year, we partnered with our friends at Cheer & Dance Extreme to bring you the Spreading Good Cheer initiative, designed to recognize and honor individuals who are making a difference in the lives of others. Congratulations to all of our 2016 athletes who are making a difference to Spread Good Cheer throughout their communities! Here’s a look-back at each and every one of these inspirational young ladies.

February 2016 | Calista Colwell
Calista spreads good cheer throughout her community by joining with her local area AMVETS. Over Thanksgiving and Christmas, Calista packed over 200 food packages for veterans. Not only did Calista volunteer and prepare the packages, but she coordinated the food donations and volunteers to make the holidays a little brighter for veterans and their families.

April 2016 | Dusti Bourque
Dusti spreads good cheer by always helping around the gym. She is loved by so many and everyone knows Dusti! She is an amazing role model to others and is a force to be reckoned with. She loves the little girls at her gym and they all adore her back. When she’s not helping at her gym, Dusti can be found volunteering around her community. She often works with special needs kids and has even helped at a special needs pageant. This year, she’ll even be putting on a special needs pageant herself! Dusti is such a blessing to each person she comes in contact with.

June 2016 | Gianna Lopez

During the holiday months, Gianna did a mission each day of the advent calendar. Each morning she would open a drawer of her advent calendar and a new act of kindness would be inside. Some of these acts of kindness included: tying scarves on park benches for anyone who needed to keep warm, visiting animal shelters and donating items, and writing letters and sending care packages to soldiers.

In addition, Gianna recently heard of a little girl in Georgia who missed out on going to CHEERSPORT because she had a tumbling block. The girl’s mother desperately tried to get her a blanket, but unfortunately was unable to. Gianna decided to send the girl her own CHEERSPORT blanket along with a letter of encouragement!

August 2016 | Mya McMahon

Mya is a former foster child and a cheerleader with Ultimate Athletics in Wauconda, Illinois. At 11-years-old, she realizes how privileged she is to be able to participate in All Star cheer and how other foster kids aren’t so fortunate.

Mya just recently hosted a fundraising effort to benefit foster kids by providing “Sweet Cases” for children entering the system. They are a bright and colorful options to the typical black garbage bags foster kids receive to carry their belongings. Sweet Cases also contain stuffed animals, blankets, personal care items, coloring books and more!

In addition to her online campaign, she has raised over $540 in donations by fundraising at her local grocery store. She has also enlisted the help of her team, King & Queens L4J to raise additional funds and help create the Sweet Cases. To date, Mya’s campaign has raised almost $2,000 to benefit these very deserving children.
