Join us in this cheerful sitdown with sisters and besties, Lucy Quinn and Emily Quinn. Get to know them as they share the secret behind their sister bond through a lifetime of cheer, their advice to the younger generation, what they love about All Star, their favorite words of wisdom, and so much more!
Tell us about the moment you each fell in love with CHEER! How old were each of you?
Lucy: I started cheering when I was 10 years-old and immediately fell in love! I loved the hard work, determination, and friendships that my team had, as well as the excitement of competing for the first time ever. From there, I continued to learn so many lessons from cheer, and it truly helped me grow into the person I am today.
Emily: When I started cheer, I was 7 years-old and we had just moved to America. My best friend in elementary school did cheer, but I never thought much of it at first. I remember the way we signed up for cheer was through an advertisement for Cheer Central Suns inside a take-home folder from my school. I fell in love with cheer right from the start and I couldn’t imagine my life without it. From a prep level team to where I am now, I wouldn’t trade any moment for the world!
As sisters, did you both dive into the sport as a family? Or was it one at a time?
Lucy: We both dove into cheer at the same time! From there we were lucky enough to be on three All Star teams together (Cheer Central Suns Shine, Rise, and Lady Aurora) and two years of high school cheer together (Erie High School).
Emily: Me and Lucy both started cheering at the exact same time and we have both been doing it for almost 10 years now! We both started on prep level teams and pretty much progressed together, being on a level 4, 5, and 6 team together. We also both moved into high school cheer when we got into high school.
What’s impressive is that you both have been highly successful in both All Star and School Cheer! Tell us what you value about each of those experiences.
Lucy: The thing I value most about my successes in cheer is the work it took to get there, and the amazing friends alongside me during these accomplishments. One of my most favorite memories is winning CHSSA State with Emily! Another big accomplishment was winning The Cheerleading Worlds 2024 with Cheer Athletics Black Ice because it took all of us working so incredibly hard but also loving each other and wanting it for each other. Lastly, making the Colorado State University cheer team because although I was nervous to tryout, I have had some of the most amazing experiences of my life (EX: Football Games) and I have made incredible friends that will last forever.
Emily: What I value about All Star cheer is how that sport taught me cheer from the beginning and taught me how to value myself, put in the work to get what you want, and to be a tough athlete especially mentally. As for high school cheer, it is a whole different environment. High school cheer taught me how to be a strong leader, advocate for others, hold teammates and myself accountable, and is truly a place where I have thrived in full confidence.

Coaching can also be different in All Star and school Cheer. What are the top 3 tips your coaches provided you in each of these environments?
Lucy: Allstar: 1) Don’t stress about it until you’re doing it. 2) Confidence is key. 3) Focus on you and your job, everything else will fall into place
High School: 1) It’s not about the trophies; it’s about trying our best and being a team. 2) A positive attitude makes a huge difference. 3) You will never regret doing extra work or reps.
Emily: Within All Star cheer, it is a pretty different environment coaching wise in my opinion, and 3 of the strongest tips I have gotten is to get back up every time you make a mistake, performing will always make it easier to get through the routine, and to have trust within yourself and teammates. As for high school cheer, the best 3 tips I’ve gotten are to talk to your group and teammates throughout the routine, have fun in your routine and it will have a positive outcome, and to keep each other accountable when it is needed.
Share each of your top 5 memories throughout your cheer journey and as sisters!
Lucy: Making our first team together was just the beginning of so many unforgettable moments. We went on to compete at Cheer Worlds for the first time as teammates, then celebrated winning our high school state championship side by side. One of the highlights of my senior year was getting to base Emily on Erie Cheer, and it meant even more knowing our final competition before graduation was with her right there next to me.
Emily: My top 5 memories from my 10 years of doing cheer is making my first Cheer Worlds team in 8th grade, winning state with my high school team and sister my freshman year, competing at my first Cheer Worlds, getting top 3 at high school nationals in 2025, and nationals 2024 was such a fun traveling and competing memory with friends and family overall. And a huge bonus shoutout to Lucy for making the CSU cheer team!
Do you each have cheer idols you look up to? How and why do they inspire you in the sport?
Lucy: Throughout my All Star and high school years I always looked up to Mary Sergi. She inspired me because she is so incredibly talented, she was on amazing teams such as TGLC and Alabama, but she was also so sweet and kind.
Emily: Growing up, I had a lot of cheer idols especially through All Star cheer, and I more look up to teams as a whole through high school cheer. I really looked up to Ryan Cummings growing up, particularly due to the fact she was on a Cheer Worlds team, had amazing facials and body positions, and was on one of my dream teams as I grew up through cheer. She just inspired me because she was living one of my dreams and was amazing at it!
Share with us some words of advice you’d tell the younger generation of cheer athletes!
Lucy: My advice to the younger generation is that no matter what happens or what hardships come your way, never give up, it is so so worth it to keep going.
Emily: Some words of advice I would give to the younger generation of cheerleaders is to be confident and don’t be afraid to speak up for yourself! In my opinion, it is so important to be a leader on your team and helps boost your confidence so much. I also would say to continue to push yourself every day. You never know what skills and dreams you can achieve if you don’t try!
Where do you each see yourself 10 years from now?!
Lucy: I see myself working a job in the psychology field helping support and encourage others, but I would love to coach a local high school or All Star cheer team so that I can pass down my experience, advice, and knowledge.
Emily: 10 years from now, I see myself still being involved in cheer through coaching. I really want to do coaching as well as another job in my future and also cheer throughout college over the next 4-5 years of my life as well! My dream is to go to a D1 college and cheer for all four years. I also would love to win a college national title!
