Hello everyone! It is with bittersweetness that I write my last blog as a cheer athlete as I transition to the world of Acrobatics and Tumbling as a collegiate athlete at Baylor University in Texas.
I want to take this time to thank everyone who supported me in this sport since I started competing at age 4. I have grown up in the cheer world and I have strived to be a positive role model for my peers and those athletes that are new to the sport.
I have nothing but respect for those girls and boys that day in and day out give their all in the gym to deliver the best routine they can as an individual and as a teammate on the floor competition day.
I look forward to competing as a collegiate athlete in Acrobatics and Tumbling and I encourage everyone to look at this sport as an option as they seek out colleges. I will apply what I learned as a cheer athlete to this sport; discipline, determination, teamwork and dedication.
What’s next for me at Baylor besides Acrobatics and Tumbling is earning my degree in Health Sciences and Mandarin Chinese and going on to Medical School to become a Pediatrician. I have no doubts the foundation I gained in participating in cheer will lead to my success as an adult, because all the things I learned from being a cheer athlete I can apply to being a successful student and doctor.
I will miss competing in this sport that I grew up in but I will continue to give back through judging, being a clinician and helping cheerleading continue gaining credibility as a sport so cheerleaders become recognized as the athletes they are.
