Day one the teams at the 2010 College Cheerleading National Championship were amazing! All the teams were great and I was floored by many of the performances. I headed over to the Milk House early to watch the semi-finals first. There were several divisions competing today for National Tiles was All Girl I & 11, Coed Division I & 11, Small Coed I & II and Junior College
The finals, for the all girl division, were so much fun to watch. There were so many good routines. The University of South Florida, coming in 3rd, started the competition out strong. Their routine was clean and sharp, which is extremely important to place well. They ended their routine was solid toe backs. Placing second was the University of Memphis, go Tigers! They also had a great routine; the best part was the ending pyramid, it was so clean and original! They ended in a strong 2-1-1. And the 2010 National Champion is Morehead State University! The only word I have is PHENOMINAL! Those girls walked out with confidence. In their rock solid elite, they fulled up, then did high to high full arounds, and ended in rewinds! And I have to say that their dance was so much fun! They looked like they were having a blast on the floor! Everything from the tumbling to the cheer was super! Great job to all the teams out there! There were so many fantastic routines!
Later in the evening I got to watch so many more great teams! Northwest Missouri State rocked back handspring full-ups! And above all super clean! I was really impressed by all of the solid hand to hands that many teams performed. I was also a fan on the cartwheel to shoulder stand. I was so proud of all the teams today and can't wait for tomorrow!
SNEAK PEEK
In October, many teams put together a skills tape for college nationals. These tapes show the team's best partner stunts, baskets, pyramids, tumbling and cheer. They are judged and the top teams receive paid bids and bypass semi finals! The division I A teams that do not compete in semi finals get to do a “walk thru” on the competition floor; they are not judged and get to do whatever they wish to perform. Today I got to see routines from UCF, Alabama, Kentucky, Memphis, Minnesota, Hawaii, Kansas, and Ohio. The routines were all amazing, and they were all so different! Hawaii was so creative in everything from partner stunt to baskets. UCF's cheer rocked the room with people yelling black and gold! Kentucky's Cirque du Soleil inspired pyramids made the crowd roar! Alabama was so fun to watch! I could go on and on about all of the teams. I can't wait for tomorrow, the competition is going to be great!
