The standing tuck quickly became a must have in the world of cheerleading. Once seen only on All Star or collegiate squads, the back tuck has made its way into the requirement box on score sheets at all levels of cheerleading.

Although the standing tuck is commonly refered to as a "back tuck," we prefer the term "standing tuck." The interference of the skill moving backward is incorrect. Although backward momentum exists, the skill is upward landing almost at the point of origin.

Before a standing tuck is actually attempted (always with the help of a spotter), progression drills should be performed, including hollow body jumps, "set" drills, and abdominal exercises. It's important to note that this skill requires much more strength (particularly legs and abs) and muscle memory than a back hand spring.
